Power Play

"Power Play" is from a reference photo I shot of rodeo bulls in Jackson, WY.  I was fascinated watching the interaction of these two bulls, as the black one clearly had some sort of beef (sorry!) with the spotted one. He continued to pursue and charge the other guy for quite a while.  My biggest challenge in this piece was painting the black-not-black bull.  There is a lot of detail and glossiness, and rendering it with color that would not be dead shades of black proved interesting, but I believe successful.  Another cool thing about this piece is that the spotted bull's other eye wraps around the right side of the painting.
